What to Pack?

Moving from a different country to the US can be overwhelming, especially if it’s your first-time. To help you with that process, Global MedTeam has put together a quick guide on all the essentials to pack to ensure a seamless transition.

  1. Clothing – Be Prepared
    • Seasonal Preparedness
      Research your future place of residence’s climate/weather and pack clothing that suits each season. Be ready for weather changes by including coats, hats, and gloves for winter visits and cotton shirts while traveling in summer.
    • Layering for Versatility
      Pack various layered clothing items to adapt to different temperatures and climates
    • Comfort is Key
      Don’t forget to bring comfortable shoes, clothing, and accessories and.prioritize comfortable footwear.
  2. Documents
    • Bring your passport, visa, driver’s license, and any other necessary identification documents to the US.
    • Make copies of vital documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, and medical records.
    • Keep your Nurse’s license, Nurse’s registration card, Proof of insurance, and other key professionals documents with you
  3. Medical Essentials
    • Bring your medical documents and an adequate supply of prescribed medicine.
  4. Appliances and electronics
    • Bring your laptop, smartphone, and chargers.
    • Make sure you have adapters for US power/ electrical outlets (if not, you can shop for them later)
    • If you rely on certain equipment or gadgets, be sure they are compatible or find suitable alternatives in the United States.
  5. Miscellaneous Items
    • Consider carrying a modest amount of money to cover urgent expenditures upon arrival.
      • Note: if you are carrying more than $10,000 into the US you must declare it (per US immigration laws)
    • Pack toiletries, personal hygiene products, and any other necessities for everyday activities.


Please note: Along with your immigration documents, you must declare certain  items in your checked baggage or carry-on luggage when going through customs, and some items are prohibited.
