Job Description
Patient Assessment and Triage
- Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients as per policy.
- Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes proper pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family about pain management.
- Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Response is proper to the patient in emergency or physically distressful situations.
Medical Interventions
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in the office/clinic setting.
- Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as needed and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
- Demonstrates ability to revise plan of care as shown by the patient’s response to treatment.
- Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
- Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
- Medical and surgical asepsis is conducted during treatments and special procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to help providers with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
- Manages and runs equipment safely and correctly. Performs preventative maintenance.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families following office/clinic standards.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that perfects patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the RN scope of practice.
Collaboration and Communication
- Meet the communication needs of patients and family members.
- Communicate with providers and staff about patient’s clinical conditions.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to coworkers, providers, and office/clinic manager.
- Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in patient education.
- Formulates a teaching plan based on found learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; includes family in teaching.
- Answers telephone calls in a professional manner; refers patient problems to office/clinic provider; schedules patient appointments.
- Maintains a good working relationship with all staff members of the office/clinic.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
- Maintain regulatory requirements.
- Meets current documentation standards and policies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of lab requirements, requisitions.
- Maintains established office/clinic policies and procedures, goals, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies.
- Helps in cost containment through proper ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.

Certifications and Experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physically able to lift and move patients as needed.
- Experience working in a clinic or similar healthcare setting preferred.
- Minimum requirements include graduation from an accredited school of nursing. ASN required, BSN preferred
- 2 years of experience working in a clinical set-up
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) documentation
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Current BCLS certification
Must successfully pass background checks and drug screen.
