Job Description

Patient Assessment and Triage
  • Helps in positioning, prepping, and draping of patients for surgical procedures. 
  • Always shows competence when handling specimens. 
  • Treats patients and families respectfully, addresses their diverse needs, follows sterile procedures, and ensures patient safety to prevent medical errors.
Medical Interventions
  • Provides direct post-operative care to patients of all ages, adapting procedures to meet individual needs.
  • Maintains medical/surgical asepsis, transcribes and implements physician orders, and administers medications and treatments.
  • Assesses patients, makes decisions in crisis situations, and performs additional assigned duties.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies related to patient care, including administering life-saving measures as needed. 
  • Ability to assist in evacuation of residents during emergency situations. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborates closely with physicians for patient care, provides education, reassurance, and emotional support to patients and families.
  • May supervise personnel and ensure the surgical suite operates smoothly while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Plans and implements patient care plans, promoting a culture of safety and quality in accordance with hospital policies.
Documentation and Record-Keeping
  • Accurately completes and verifies operating room counts, promptly addressing and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Ensures all equipment and instruments are checked and functioning properly before each procedure.
  • Protects patient privacy and confidentiality, providing care with minimal disturbance and respecting sensitive information.

Certifications and Experience
  • Minimum requirements include graduation from an accredited school of nursing. ASN required, BSN/MSN preferred
  • 2 years of experience working in the perioperative setting (pre-operative department, post anesthesia care unit, operating room, interventional radiology, etc.)
  • Familiarity with electro
  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified
  • Ability to teach patients and families
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Working knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and legal elements of nursing
  • Critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment
  • Demonstrate ability to immediately recognize and institute treatment for the following emergency/life threatening situations: cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, airway obstruction, respiratory arrest, hemorrhage, vagal response, syncope, shock, toxic overdose of local anesthesia, hypertension, hypotension, and malignant hyperthermia
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate compatibly with all physicians and staff.
  • Have strong organizational skills, diligence, and a clear understanding of the importance of professional etiquette through phone calls and email correspondence.
